Weavers and Farmers

“The farmers are the backbone of our country,” said Om Puri on whose philosophy the Om Puri Foundation has been established. He also believed that “the artisans and weavers of India can lead our country toward self-sufficiency”. Reason enough for us to give out the Om Puri Kisaan Scholarships and the Om Puri Kaarigar Scholarships for children of farmers and artisans respectively.

These two communities along with several others have been badly affected during Covid-19  pandemic.
With the help of Rameshwari Kaul and Vinayak Sharma of Cotton Rack and Aamir and Rhea of Dastkar, who helped us with the personal bank details of 500 and more artisan families by painstakingly going through every minute detail, we at the Foundation were able to reach out to them during this very difficult phase of human history. And glad we were able to bring a smile on their faces. We aim to reach out to more and keep their looms clicking happily.

With the help of Rajendra Dorde Patil of the Dorde Patil Trust, we were able to reach out to the most deserving farmers in the remotest corners of Maharashtra and help them directly by way of food and ration.

Also, Om Puri Foundation helped stranded students with food during the lockdown period in Pune.
